Join us for a virtual seminar by Dr. Subhashree (Shree) Mishra, National Science Foundation (NSF). Her talk is titled "Strengthening U.S. Geoscience: NSF Priorities and Opportunities for NASA-NSF Partnership."

Abstract:
The U.S. National Science Foundation Directorate for Geosciences (NSF GEO) invests in projects that increase our understanding of the Earth and the processes that shape our environment. NSF is offering new funding opportunities that strengthen U.S. leadership in science and engineering, accelerate discovery and innovation, and ensure that the nation’s research enterprise is prepared to address emerging opportunities and challenges. This presentation will provide an overview of new agency priorities and highlight how they translate into opportunities for the research community. The talk will focus on how these priorities intersect with geoscience research and workforce development.

The presentation will also explore the importance of cross-agency partnerships in leveraging complementary capabilities to support research, research infrastructure, and scientific priorities. The presentation will prompt discussion to identify areas where NSF and NASA can work together to advance fundamental research, enable transformative discoveries, and strengthen the nation’s broader science and technology enterprise.

Biography:
Dr. Subhashree (Shree) Mishra serves as Section Head in the Geosciences Directorate (GEO) at the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF), where she oversees a scientific portfolio advancing understanding of Earth’s atmosphere and near-Earth space systems. She has held multiple leadership roles across the Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences community and within NSF, with experience spanning program management, cross-directorate initiatives, and national-scale scientific infrastructure.

Previously, she led NSF oversight of the Earth Observing Laboratory (EOL) at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and completed an assignment in NSF’s Directorate for Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP). She also served as the first Acting Deputy Division Director for the newly established RISE Division in GEO, where she led development and launch of the Regional Resilience Innovation Incubator (R2I2) program.

Shree holds a Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering from the University of Madras, India. She also provided her LinkedIn profile.
