AERONET Science and Application Exchange

AERONET Science and Application Exchange 2024

Dates: September 17-19, 2024

Location: UMD Alumni Center, 7801 Alumni Dr., College Park, MD 20742

In 2023, the AERONET network completed 30 years of atmospheric aerosol measurements from the NASA Goddard site and expanded to more than 100 countries, with close to 600 active sites. The planned AERONET science and application exchange aims to bring the global AERONET community together for a three-day meeting. The primary purpose of this exchange will be to discuss and collaborate with the worldwide community on topics related to the AERONET system, including scientific development, instrument calibration, research, and application. The exchange will bring together all AERONET partners and the data user community.

About AERONET:

The AERONET (AErosol RObotic NETwork) program is a federation of ground-based remote sensing aerosol networks established by NASA and CNRS, University of Lille and CNES (PHOTONS network) in France and is greatly expanded by networks (e.g., RIMA, AEROSPAIN, AeroSpan, AEROCAN, NEON, and CARSNET) and collaborators from national agencies, institutes, universities, individual scientists, and partners. For more than 30 years, the project has provided long-term, continuous, and readily accessible public domain database of aerosol optical, microphysical, and radiative properties for aerosol research and characterization, validation of satellite retrievals, and synergism with other databases. The network imposes standardization of instruments, calibration, processing, and distribution.

Call for Abstracts: AERONET Science and Application Exchange (Note, the call has closed for 2024)

The AERONET Science and Application Exchange organizing team is excited to invite researchers, scientists, engineers, data users, and professionals worldwide to submit abstracts for presentations at the upcoming exchange. The event will serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge, insights, and advancements in the field of atmospheric aerosols measurements while focusing on AErosol RObotic NEtwork (AERONET) science and its diverse applications.

We welcome abstract submissions on a wide range of topics related to AERONET measurements, science, and applications, including but not limited to:

  • AERONET networks, operation, calibration, and instrumentations
  • Ground Networks (SKYNET, Pandora, MPLNET, SPARTAN, ASCENT, AirNow, others) synergic deployment, science, and applications
  • Atmospheric aerosol properties retrievals and applications using AERONET and other similar measurements
  • Satellite Validation and Calibration with AERONET data
  • Model evaluation and assimilation using AERONET data
  • AERONET data in applications (i.e., Air Quality, Climate, renewal energy, etc.)
  • Nighttime aerosol monitoring using AERONET and its applications
  • Maritime Aerosol Network (MAN) data and applications
  • AERONET-OC Network, data, and application
  • Innovative Applications of AERONET Data
  • Advances in Instrumentation and Technology
  • Collaborative Research and Partnerships
