GESTAR II SEMINAR SERIES
Steven J. Smith Joint Global Change Research Institute Biography: Steven J. Smith is a senior Earth scientist at PNNL's Joint Global Change Research Institute in College Park, MD. Smith's research has focused on long-term socioeconomic scenarios, the interface between socioeconomic systems and the climate system, and the interactions between air pollution and climate. Smith is principal investigator of the Community Emissions Data System (CEDS) project that produces global historical air pollutant emissions over the industrial era (1750-present). Smith also works with the Global Change Analysis Model (GCAM), which he and collaborators are using to examine multi-sector interactions between the energy system and air-pollutant emissions from global to regional scales.

| "The Community Emissions Data System (CEDS)" Abstract: The Community Emissions Data System (CEDS) provides estimates of air pollutant and GHG emission globally from 1950 to the most recent full year for use in a range of scientific analysis, including atmospheric modeling. This talk will provide a brief overview of the goals of CEDS and the most recent data release, and then focus on the methodologies used in the system, comparisons with other inventory data, and plans for current and future work. |
