Keller & Knowland create Index on Children's Health Risk
Collaboration between NYU and NASA scientists
In a recent article from the NCCS, "Using the Power of Global Air Quality Models
and NCCS Supercomputing Resources, NYU and NASA Collaborators Create a Novel Index to Communicate Children’s Respiratory Health Risk", several scientists, including Christoph Keller and K. Emma Knowland (both 610.1/MSU), studied air quality in cities around the world using GEOS-CF and the Discover supercomputer at NCCS. The Goddard Earth Observing System Composition Forecast system (GEOS-CF) provides extensive, detailed data. Says Laura Gladson (NYU), "Alongside GEOS-CF, this [novel] index can be used in areas without air quality monitoring to alert parents to the health risks their children face during times of elevated outdoor air pollution.”
