Shuman contributes to Earth Observatory Image of the Day

Christopher Shuman (615/UMBC) contributed to the recent Earth Observatory Image of the Day (IOTD), "Antarctic Iceberg Spins Out." This item presents the journey of Iceberg A-23A from November 1991 to November 2024. "After breaking from the Filchner-Ronne Ice Shelf in 1986, Iceberg A-23A spent decades stuck to the floor of the southern Weddell Sea." Additionally, the IOTD includes an animation of the iceberg's unusual actions from November 5 - December 16, 2024. According to Dr. Shuman, the information about icebergs gleaned from satellites “... serves to remind us both of the mysteries of our oceans and the value of remote sensing data.”
