Thompson part of SCOAPE team studying NO2 data
For its second campaign, the SCOAPE research team, including Anne Thompson (614/UMBC) and UMBC Ph.D. student Josh Richards, is on a research vessel in the Gulf of Mexico, primarily studying NO2 and ground-level ozone. By comparing surface measurements with NO2 measurements from satellites, researchers can gain a more complete picture of its effects. The Satellite Coastal and Oceanic Atmospheric Pollution Experiment (SCOAPE) research team first began this project in 2019 using data from two different satellites; in 2024, they are examining measurements from TEMPO (the Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution instrument), launched on a satellite in 2023.
