Congratulations to Tamás Varnai on his Promotion
Congratulations to Tamás Varnai (613/UMBC) on his promotion to Research Professor!
We asked Dr. Varnai for insight to his research goals as well as his own activities:
"My research seeks to improve our understanding of clouds and of the atmospheric aerosols that occur in partly cloudy regions. This work includes trying to improve our abilities for cloud and aerosol remote sensing, for example by taking into account the complex three-dimensional nature of the radiative processes shaping our observations. My research also strives to detect and characterize clouds containing ice crystals that maintain a steady horizontal orientation as they float in the air—and thus have different radiative and microphysical effects than the typical ice crystals, which tumble randomly. Overall, my work seeks to help us better understand clouds, near-cloud aerosols, and the processes through which they shape our planet.
In my free time, I love walking our dog, exercising, and having adventures with family."
